Kidney Failure

Kidney Disease Symptoms: The human body contains two kidneys, each of which process waste before it is sent to the bladder as urine. When a kidney "fails" it becomes unable to properly process this waste. Kidney failure is also referred to as "renal failure." Depending on the severity of the failure, a patient may have to undergo dialysis, a procedure that takes the blood out of the body and sends it into a dialysis machine. The machine, in lieu of the kidney, filters the waste products from the blood. Severe cases of renal failure may require a kidney transplant.

The popular cholesterol lowering drug Baycol is one kidney failure cause. Symptoms of Baycol use may include rhabdomyolysis, a potentially fatal condition which causes muscle pain and kidney failure in severe cases. Baycol was removed from the market on August 8, 2001.
